AI thematic investing: a strategic framework for institutional funds and corporate strategists

Several people asked me recently: “What does an investment model in AI look like right now whether public or private?”

It’s a complex question, and the answer would be a non simple $2 trillion top line budget for AI by 2030!

However, I tried to simplify it as much as I can in this short framework that can guide different vehicles towards some sort of thematic investment:

  • Venture Capital theme: backing visionary teams and vertical AI applications.
  • Private Equity theme: proven leaders with moats and clear consolidation paths.
  • Public Markets theme: exploiting mispricings and second-order beneficiaries.

And looking ahead: Vertical AI, Embodied AI, and the Midstream infrastructure are the key themes shaping the next cycle.
